Transitioning into assisted living is a significant life change that can be emotionally challenging for many people. But, making this shift can be a little easier when a couple can do it together.

The truth is that many couples experience different health challenges as they age. While one partner may experience the common aches and pains that come with aging, another may face significant health issues from a chronic health condition. Typically, the healthier person ends up taking on a caregiver role, supporting the needs of their partner. That can present increasing difficulty as a chronic health condition progresses—and that’s where assisted living can have dramatic benefits for couples entering their next phase of life.

Can Couples Live Together?

Yes, they can! Fortunately, facilities like Copeland Oaks offer a variety of living arrangements to accommodate different needs. Our approach guarantees that residents receive the care they need at every stage. Every senior living option is located on our campus, so residents never have to move to a new facility or miles away just to receive a new level of care.

Care Support Options for Couples & Spouses

Copeland Oaks is a continuing care retirement community that takes care of our residents for life. With that in mind, there are several options available to suit the varying needs that couples may have in their lifetime, including independent living, catered living and assisted living options.

Independent Living

Copeland Oaks independent living communities allow active, healthy seniors age 55 or older to continue with their current lifestyle within a community of peers. We offer two options for those seeking retirement living options. Couples can settle into ranch-style villas nestled in a tranquil neighborhood setting, or a room with a view at our Lakeshore Apartments.

Our villas are perfect for couples who are looking to downsize, but like living in a private, one-story home or apartment that is more easy to manage. It gives couples who don’t require day-to-day assistance the freedom to live in a neighborhood or community setting with other seniors.

Catered Living

Halfway between independent living and assisted living are catered living options that allow couples to live independently with some assistance. Catered living helps seniors maintain as much of their independence as possible, making it an ideal middle step for those not yet ready for full-time care. It’s the perfect option for couples who want help with daily household tasks and chores and like having a kitchen, but want some meal assistance.

Assisted Living

Even when couples have differing care needs, Copeland Oaks offers options to keep them close at every stage. Let’s say one partner is able to live independently, but the other requires daily support for a chronic condition. That’s where assisted living comes into play. This care option offers help with meals, medication management, bathing, dressing, and transportation.

In this scenario, one partner may maintain an apartment or villa in our independent living community, while the other lives separately in our assisted living apartments or memory care facility. This allows the couple to live in close proximity, while still getting the care they need.
