Living in a retirement community during your senior years is a great way to stay active and engaged with a community of peers. No matter what your hobbies or interests are, the activities on the calendar at Copeland Oaks have something for everyone! Learn more about the types of activities that we offer.

1. Field Trips

Outings are a great way to get the most out of the community in which seniors live. In addition to the wide range of on-campus activities offered at Copeland Oaks, we also regularly arrange and provide transportation for field trips. From fun day trips to shopping trips and running errands, Copeland has you covered. Many seniors on campus benefit from getting away for the day to local towns and villages. We love visiting Amish country for great food and antique tours. We even do crafters trips to Michael’s and JoAnn’s! Recent outings have included seeing plays and lecturers at Mount Union and Youngstown State, ball games at the Akron Rubber Ducks Stadium, other sporting events, the Canton Symphony Orchestra and many more!

2. Fine Arts, Crafts & More

Whether it’s already a hobby of yours or you’re looking for something fun to try, painting is an activity that many of our residents enjoy. Our Creativity Center & Art Studio offers several painting classes, including watercolors, intuitive painting and more, which allow residents to express themselves artistically while having a great time. In addition to painting classes, we also host drawing, handcrafts, needlework, photography, jewelry making and more! Our campus features galleries that display the work of many of our resident artists and artisans in addition to world-renowned artists. We also host an Assisted Living Art Show in our Bennet Auditorium where we showcase artwork submitted by residents. Plus, many of our residents submit their work and take home awards in the annual Ohio LeadingAge Art & Writing Show.

3. Games

Enjoy a game or two of billiards in our lounge! Our residents also meet to play poker, euchre, bingo, bridge and more. Whether you have a competitive spirit or just love to spend time putting your brain to work with a challenging puzzle, chess or checkers, there are many opportunities for our residents to play games! We also have a large selection of board games in our game rooms.

4. Exercising

We offer many physical activities on campus to help both our assisted living and independent living residents stay active while living at Copeland Oaks. At our on-site aquatics and fitness center, residents enjoy our indoor pool and fitness room which features senior safe equipment. At our wellness center residents can exercise independently or join in on one of our exercise classes or recreational programs, including personal training and aerobics. You can also play a game of pickle ball at our nearby court. Plus, in our state-of-the-art Buckeye Aerobics Studio, we provide a menu of classes including Zumba, chair exercises, line dancing and more. Residents also enjoy our outdoor walking trails, bike path, and wheelchair safe fishing pier.

5. Gardening

Have a green thumb? Help us keep our grounds beautiful with your skills and do some gardening on the Copeland Oaks campus! Our community gardens are places where our residents who enjoy gardening grow beautiful flowers and vegetables, including tomatoes, beans, squash, corn and more. Garden on your own or make it a group activity. Plus, our villa residents get to enjoy gardening from the comfort of their own homes! These residents receive all the benefits of caring for their own gardens, without the hassle of traditional yard and lawn maintenance. And Copeland Oaks makes frequent trips in the spring and summer to local gardens and nature preserves.

6. Golfing

For our residents who enjoy golfing as a sport or pastime, Copeland Oaks is located nearby the Berlin Lake Golf Club where all of our residents enjoy a free lifetime membership and golf! Use of the golf carts is also free. Play a game independently or join our Copeland Oaks Golf League which plays weekly.

7. Woodworking

In addition to other fun activities and hobbies that residents have access to on campus, we also have our very own dedicated woodworking shop. Whether you already had a knack for woodworking before you made the move to Copeland Oaks, or want to learn a new skill, our woodworking shop is a great place for residents to create! Our residents who do woodworking have also taken home awards in the annual Ohio LeadingAge Art & Writing Show.

8. Fun Times with Pets

Animals help increase social interaction, reduce stress, and even lower blood pressure. Copeland Oaks is a pet-friendly campus where our independent living and assisted living residents are encouraged to own pets. In addition to cat and dog companions, residents are welcome to bring birds, reptiles and other unique animals! Earlier this year, residents even participated in Pet Therapy Palooza where they made treats for their furry friends and enjoyed creative pet fashions! In addition to residents’ own pets, therapy dogs often visit our assisted living residents.

9. Holiday Celebrations, Anniversaries & Birthday Parties

In addition to celebrations of holidays for residents and their family and friends, like annual Christmas parties, Trick-or-Treating, and more, we also love to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries on our campus! There’s never a shortage of great times at Copeland Oaks!

10. Ice Cream Socials & Live Entertainment

Enjoy the weather and socialize with other residents at one of Copeland Oaks’ ice cream socials! Our ice cream socials make great opportunities for friends to catch up or new residents to meet their neighbors. Often our ice cream socials are followed or preceded by great on-campus entertainment like quartets, bands, and more performers!
