Position: Director of Development for the Oaks Foundations at Copeland Oaks Retirement Community.

Years at Copeland: I feel fortunate to have been with Copeland Oaks since 1998.

What are your duties / what are you responsible for: I am responsible for the fundraising efforts of The Oaks Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of Copeland Oaks and Crandall Medical Center. Donor stewardship is an important role in my job. Acquiring and acknowledging gifts and maintaining correspondence with donors is vital. It leads to cultivation, just as cultivation leads to solicitation. Most donors contribute to Copeland Oaks and Crandall Medical Center because they care so deeply about the work we do and the residents that live here.

Why do you work at Copeland: I have been here many years and am strongly committed to the residents that call Copeland home. The senior population worked hard providing for their families during times of war and difficult economic downturns. It’s only fitting that now they have the opportunity to relax and enjoy retirement living in a beautiful and safe community where all their needs are taken care of. It’s a way for my generation to give back. And, I’m lucky enough to be a part of such a wonderful organization.

What is your favorite aspect of your job: The best part of my job is the interaction I have with the residents, staff and board members. It’s a good feeling to come to work every day when the people you are surrounded by are enjoying life. Copeland Oaks is a lively and active community where everyone cares about each other. When you walk down the hallways and see smiling faces, you don’t want to be anyplace else.

What sets Copeland Oaks apart from other Retirement Communities: Copeland Oaks is unique in the sense that it offers a financial assistance program to residents who can no longer afford to pay for their costs of care. No resident has ever been asked to leave Copeland Oaks due to their inability to pay.

Are you involved in any groups/clubs/activities outside of work: I am an active member of the Mahoning/Shenango Valley Association of Fundraising Professionals. I am a member of the AFP Board of Directors and the Vice President of the AFP Program Committee. I am also a proud member of the Alliance Kiwanis Club.

Where did you go to college & what was your degree in: Currently I’m a student at Walsh University studying for a dual major in Marketing and Business with definite plans on transitioning into the masters program.
